Dear Worry: I’m So Breaking Up With You

Dear Worry:

I’ve been meaning to write this letter for a while now.

You and I have shared a strong bond over the last thirty years. In fact, I often feel incomplete without you. Can you imagine a world where my inner fun person shines? Probably not. Well, I don’t know how to break it to you, but she exists. There is a fun version of me whether you believe it or not.

In fact, I’m so damn fun on the inside. You have no idea how FUN I AM.

But, you refuse to listen. Just when I’ve made a commitment to be more fun, to have more fun, you show up.

Flood

Flooded Bench

I woke to a voice within the room. perhaps.
The room itself: “You’re wasting this life
expecting disappointment.”
I packed my bag in the night
and peered in its leather belly
to count the essentials.
Nothing is essential.
To the east, the flood has begun.
Men call to each other on the water
for the comfort of voices.
Love surprises us.
It ends.

The Secret Garden

Of course there must be lots of Magic in the world, but people don’t know what it is like or how to make it. Perhaps the beginning is just to say nice things are going to happen until you make them happen.

Why Moms Need to Laugh

Laughing Mom

Once my now five year old who was then four years old looked at me and asked me why I didn’t laugh much.

I didn’t realize he would notice that.

I thought being the busy mom, the doing, the cleaning, the making sure he had his peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut into triangles and not squares, the getting him dressed and trying to get that colic of hair in the back of his head to stay down – all of that – I thought that was enough, in a way. And yet, he didn’t see that.

He saw that I hadn’t laughed in a while.

The Horses

Rickie Lee Jones

We will fly
Way up high
Where the cold wind blows
Or in the sun
Laughing having fun
With the people that she knows
And if the situation
Should keep us separated
You know the world won’t fall apart
And you will free the beautiful bird
That’s caught inside your heart…

That’s the way it’s gonna be, little darlin’
We’ll be riding on the horses, yeah
Way up in the sky, little darlin’
And if you fall I’ll pick you up, pick you up

You will grow
And until you go
I’ll be right there by your side
And even then
Whisper the wind
And she will carry up your ride

Healing Quote of the Day

Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.
